Power Steering leak

The pitman shaft (I think thats what the official name is) has a leak that is coming what looks like from the bottom, i.e. the end with the shaft.

Typically does this mean that the power steering pump is going out? What do I need to replace?

Try some Lucas power steering sealer first.Keep fluid level up,don't let it run dry or you will be replacing your pump. The pitman arm shaft seal is shot.

^ exactly what i was going to say.

98-99 durango/dakota box is a direct bolt in replacement that doesn't require any other mods and is stronger than the stock wrangler box. that is on my list of things to do to the heep. mine has been leaking for at least 20,000 miles. as long as you keep the fluid filled you will be fine, its one of those things that you eventually get to.

Thanks!

I'll keep it topped off and keep an eye out for a gearbox. That is cool that the durango box is a direct bolt on. Any recommendation on where to pick one up?

junkyard if you want a used one but who knows of it's condition.

You can pick up new ones at just about any auto parts store.

Well, it is practically pouring now so I am commited to doing this.

I found these links and just had one q.

Should I get with or without the snow plow package for the 98-99 durango? I guess the snow plow package box allows you to turn slower.
