ullinghair: OK, I have had two wranglers in 3 years and haven't been able to seal my rear soft top window on either one. My old YJ didn't even have a tail gate bar, but I didn't care about it because it was a YJ.
Well now I have my TJ and for some reason, the brackets that hold the bar in the to back are warped or something, or the bar is not set up the right way. I cannot get the tailgate bar to fit into the brackets and I don't know if its because somebody put on the wrong parts, somebody put the bar together the wrong way, or the parts are just warped and need replacing.
Anybody wanna show me pics of exactly how the tailgate bar should be assembled and fit into the outer retainers and seal to the tailgate? I don't want to end up with a soggy carpet and rusted floor board just yet!
You have to roll it into place. It should be tipped up toward you and you roll your end down a bit into the brackets. It only fits one way. Look at the seal strip very carefully to orient it. You may have it on the window backwards. The two rubber blocks that fit into the clips may be on incorrectly.
As others have stated, pics would clear this up pretty fast.
Slide the bar out of the channel on the window, remove the window, then figure out how the bar fits without the window in the way. Make sure is fits and seals shut across the top of the tailgate. Once you get it, remove it, keeping it oriented so that you can remember how it goes. Maybe take a photo of it or mark it with a Sharpie. The slide the window back on and install the thing properly.
Think of it as a puzzle. A cruel, mildly humorous puzzle... ;-)
Okay guys, I'll try and get some pics up today...the good news is I have it to where at least the tailgate is sealed, I had to take the rubber seal off the bar and flip it over to fit correctly.
However the problem still remains that the bar won't fit into the brackets, no matter the rolling, pushing, sliding, pounding I do, the rectangle fittings just don't seem to match the shape of the brackets.
maybe you have brackets on there for a tonneau cover?? my bestop tonneau cover brackets are different then my Soft top rear brackets...the soft top brackets are bigger than the tonneau cover ones
OR
the brackets have been flipped ( left is on right / right is on left)...I will try and snap pics of my brackets tonight for ya bud
And trust me, all the rolling and pushing in the world will not make this work. I've been afraid I was gonna break the bar I've pushed and rolled so hard.
Thanks man, when the sun comes up I'll run out and see if I can shape them correctly. Sounds petty but I hate to blow $30 on something so simple!
