My problem is that I can get both nuts in the driver door off but then I cant get the door to come out of the hinges. Am I doing something wrong. Then on the passanger door the top hinge nut I cant get loose it just spins and spins the problem with it is the bolt head is nut spinning. How so you get the doors off?
you can try wrapping a big ass flat blade screwdriver, or pry bar with a towel. with the door partially open stick the towel/screwdriver..prybar between the bottom of the door and the door sill. pry up and it should pop. my doors the first time off felt like they where welded on too. just make sure someone or you can hold the door while you pry up. you dont want it to fall off.
WD40 or PB blaster the hell out of the door pins. when you go to pick them up work the door left to right helps some. as far as you passager door: sounds like the bolt is stripped. you can try to put vise grips on the nut and push down torward the ground as you turn it : it may grab the thread and come off /also take the bottom nut off try having someone pick up on the door so the nut has force against it ;it may come off then ///if not you may have to cut it off.
once you get the doors off clean the pins off and the pin holes out Keep them lubricated and they shouldn't give you any problem.
i had the same problem.
i put a block of wood under the opened door and then two buddies went on my sidesteps and then the door comes off.
after that i sprayed the 2 bolts with WD40 bfore i put the door on again. now i can remove it always without any problems.
I don't think my doors had ever been off on my 95 when I got it last year. I used a 2x4 and a floor jack to pop them out the first time. I put a dab of white lithium grease on the pins and can still take them off one handed with ease.
Are you born to resist, or be abused?
2x on taking off the passenger door, its because its obviously not use as much as the drivers door so the hinges are all tight, What i did was open it and then with my left hand lift it up and rock it in and out with my right hand as i was lifting (use a beach towel or something for your left hand so you dont hurt your hand). It took me about 5 minutes to get the passenger door off but it worked. Once you have it off use a bit of sand paper and just clean the bolts up a bit to make them a bit smaller. If you have full steel doors make sure you lower your windows so you don't damage them on accident.
I cleaned the hinge with a pipe cleaner soaked in PBlaster and used some sand paper to clean the pins off. The first time you take them offSoak them with some kind of oil and swing the door all the way forward and back.
p.s. Dont jack on the outer lip of the door!
I agree with everyone regarding the PB Blaster and WD40 but, since I live in the mountains with plenty of snow and road salt, the doors are on over the winter and can be sticking pretty badly by spring. I slap a fair amount of white lithium grease on the door bolts before putting the doors back on and it works well. The doors come off easily in the spring. In fact, I just go ahead and keep the grease on all the time and have no rust buildup at all.
