problem with starting

i am looking to buy a 1997 jeep wrangler. when you go to start the jeep you need to pull on the high beam switch to start it or it will not start what would cause this and how do i fix it.

Check the wiring. It sounds like some crossed wires

The previous owner could have done this as an antitheft measure to prevent someone from stealing the jeep as easily. If this is the case, you probably have to trace the headlight wires from the switch back towards the lights until you find where the previous owner spliced in for the relay for the key. Just an idea..
