Problems with my Dana 35

I just completed rebuilding my dana 35, with new ring and pinion, carrier bearings, new carrier about the only thing I didn't replace was the spider gears,. When I test drove it made the same whinding noise that it made before it went out any ideas if something isn't right or did I replace the wrong part?

so it made wining noise before and now you replaced most of it and it still makes the wining noise? I wonder if its the axles/hubs or the differential.

What do you mean by "went out"?

Stupid question:

Did you refill the pumpkin with gear oil after you put it back together?

there was a guide to reshimming the gears? Every pumpkin is different, shimming for every diff would be different even with the same ring and pinion set. Usually the whining sound or howling sound is a result of bad ring and pinion installation. Check your pattern, pirate4x4 has tons of pics of what a correct pattern should look like.

You need to check the backlash too, I picked up a 97ZJ/D35 few weeks ago, already knew it had bad sounds from the rear and it's now in the shop getting new ring and pinion, locker and total rebuild but this one I'm having done by a local company that specializes in diffs and does very good work.
When I checked the backlash on it two days after I got it it was between 18 and 20 thousand, it's supposed to be around 12 and I could already see a bad wear pattern in the ring. My guess is someone replaced the pinion seal and just unbolted and rebolted the yoke back in after pulling and replacing the seal. The spiders had chips out of them and the carrier was damaged. Having the whole thing done and will be picking it up tomorrow sometime.
