PS Pulley

Anyone ever have problems with the PS pulley. I have a noise coming from the engine area. I isolated to the PS pump but am unsure if it is just the pulley or the entire pump. The noise sounds kind of like a bearing going bad. No problems steering, and the noise is relative to the rpms. It gets higher pitched as the rpms increase. Any suggestions?? TIA

More than likely it is the pump because the pulley is just pressed onto the pump shaft.Nothing for the pulley itself to make a noise unless the belt is loose. Is the reservoir full? You could try some Lucas power steering additive.

belt or pump that power steering additive is expensive you could use that money toward a new unit to solve the problem instead of prolonging it imo

Not really!!! I have seen pumps make noise for years before they ever go out.Just because it is making a noise doesn't mean it is shot.A lot of power steering pumps will wine a little just from normal stress so the Lucas helps with that.If it is grinding or a very loud screeching then I say it is done. But why not give a 5 dollar bottle of additive a try before you drop $80 plus for a pump.Yeah if your sure it is toast then replace it but otherwise try the less expensive first.I have used Lucas,Dura Lube and other additives in many of my own vehicles and have no complaints. My brothers 99 Caravan has a leaky power steering pump reservoir and if you have ever changed one you know what a pain they are from were they are.I put Lucas PS stop leak in it over a year ago and it is still holding. Now this is holding with a rusted out steel reservoir that has multiple pin holes in it.So you be the judge if the noise is real loud check other option if it is a general wine.!!!! Anyway it is up to you!!
