Purge Solenoid ?

I have had problems with my '02 Sport (6cyl.) throwing codes and having the CEL come on. The code(s) have been small evap leak, medium evap leak, and large evap leak. Today I finally took it to a independent mechanic and they pulled some vaccuum in different places. He told me that the purge solenoid would not hold vaccuum and that he thinks that is the problem. Could he be right? He said that it is located on the firewall, where? Is this something that I could change myself? Thanks, Scooby

I found what it is and where it is at, but could this be the problem? Geez, I just called the dealership and it is only a $35.00 part, the mechanic told me that he could have it tomorrow, but it was $102.00!

Yeppers, $102.00 for him to buy the part and then "a couple" of hours of labor! This thing sits on a bracket and has 2 hoses and 1 plug in electrical connection, probably a 5 minute job with a beer in there somewhere. Iam glad that I got out of there with the information that I got when I did. I will pick up the part today, get home around 5:00 install the part and reset the computer by disconnecting the battery, reset the clock and I figure I should be done around 5:10! I will go back and tell him what I did and then pay him for the time he had in the diagnostics, but that is all. Scooby
