question about defrost and compressor

Is there any way to run the defrost without the compressor? Right now I just turn the defrost on when I need it and then shut it off once the window is clear, but that is just annoying to keep switching it on and off. And sometimes I forget to turn it off and my compressor is running for the whole trip. If I run hot air through the defrost, does the compressor still run?

Compressor runs when the defrost is on, hot or cold air. It helps remove the moisture from the air blowing on the glass.

I guess you could install a switch inline to the compressor, but then you'd need to remember to turn it on...

Also if you run without the compressor the defrost will have to run hot air to get results and that can be a bitch when it's hot out. The other reason to run the compressor is so it is exercised during the colder months when it would not be normally used.
