I have a 97 2.5 manual also and was wondering about swappin to a 4.0 myself. After searching swaps last night from what I found If you were going to swap you would pretty much need the whole drivetrain and would have to change or relocate motor mounts. Also read that our tranny would'nt stand up to the 4.0 anyway.

Lame. It was a great price on that 4.0 too. For that much work, I'll be better off with a v8 swap... Search bar, here I come!!!

I stumbled upon this site a couple of weeks ago, which appears to have a lot of useful information about motor swaps on Jeeps.
