Quick rocker guards install question..

I'm in the middle of installing some Smittybilt XRC Rocker Guards and the directions call for me to shave 3/16" off of the top of each bushing. I also have a lift kit.. So above the bushings are the lift blocks. The bushings are domed at the top, I feel like shaving them flat would screw something up, would I just be able to cut down the blocks instead? It's only 2 per side, but the 3/16" will be filled in by the rocker guards themselves. Just seems like it's more accurate cutting down something that is already flat.

Sorry, too cold outside, brain was going dead. Apparently I have to shave the bushings.
