Thumbs up Radiator falling apart

Just bought my 1997 and am far from a car expert, especially under the hood. I was checking the coolant fluid levels and noticed the reservoir was empty! As I was filling it up I inspected the radiator and noticed it had quite a lot of lime looking buildup. Upon touching the small fins, the fins broke off. I can literally push my finger into the radiator. Obviously the radiator needs to be replaced and this is why the reservoir was bone dry. But why have I not seen any other effects from this (overheating)? Anything I need to know when doing a radiator replacement or anything else I should check that lack of coolant could have destroyed?

Had same thing happen to my 97. When I replaced my radiator it came out in pieces. My fan shroud and many of the body clips broke. Check your water pump and fan clutch while you have it apart. Much easier to replace when you have the radiator out. My fan clutch was shot and the pump was leaking from the weap hole.

Just don't replace it with a stock radiator. Make sure it is all metal. The radiators in the Jeep are notorious for going out.

Where can I buy an all metal one? Saw that napa auto parts sells the stock one. Will I have to order online? If so can someone suggest a site?

online try radiator barn. got a three core for less than a two core most places. three years no problems, all metal. I would change the water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, belt. would also check on all hoses. good time to change if they look a little bad.
