Radio Back Light

Hey Guys/Gals

My radio, whenever i'm driving in the sun with the top down, I can read the numbers and such on the radio, but at night, I have my headlights on and everything, I can't see a single number, it's black, the other lights on the radio light up, like the skip button and band and all that light up, but not the background or the numbers on the radio...
Help?
Any suggestions will help.

Well to be perfectly honest it be a number of things:

1. i had the same problem with a LCD in dash head unit. in direct sunlight or during the day you could see the screen and everything on the screen but at night it wasnt bright enough to see anything!! so i contacted the company and explained the problem and they said it can either be the back light of the radio is busted or there is a chip in the back of the screen which can be no good

2. a buddy of mine had subs in his wrangler and the when his headlights were on everything would dim. its just to much power with drawl so he had to purchase a capacitor which fixed the problem.

i hope this helps you with what you need and if not im sorry i tried my best haha

I have an Alpine in mine and it has what's called "Blackout mode". No lights or anything except for when your pushing on buttons. Do you have one of these by any chance?

This is what the manual for mine says...

"Blackout Mode On and Off
When the Blackout mode is turned on, the display will
turn off to reduce power consumption.
This additional power enhances the sound quality.
1 Press and hold the B.OUT button for at least 3
seconds to start the blackout mode. By doing so the
display will turn off.
NOTE
If any button on the unit is pressed during the blackout mode, the
function will be displayed for 5 seconds to show the operation
before returning to Blackout mode.
To cancel the blackout mode, press and hold the
B.OUT button for at least 3 seconds."

I hope this can help??

unfortunately for me i couldn't fix my head unit because it was old and it was a piece of shit power acoustik! Def try and contacting the company with questions and if your unit is an alpine im almost positive if you look in your state for radio repair men they would be able to fix your problem
