Random Plug

After replacing the thermostat yesterday I started checking over everything to make sure fluids were in line and things like that. While browsing around I found a random plug over the oil filter that seems to have been undone for quite some time now (covered in grime and such). I cleaned it off and plugged it back in but I am still curious as to what it is.

Stepdad claims it is a oil pressure sensor but that doesn't seem to make sense to me since I have never had a misread on the oil pressure or any problems come up other than the thermostat going out (totally unrelated).

Probably not a big deal but I'm just curious as to what it is...

It's not for the oil pressure sender, but I don't have a clue what it's for. My '97 didn't have any plug like that there.

Yeah even some of the diagrams for the 4.0 didn't even have it pictured. Even Google didn't have the answer

Oh it's a 2002 if that helps, forgot to list that the first time.

From that shiny bracket, it looks like an aftermarket job to me.

That could possibly be it. I do remember having a random wire hanging from the dash that a past owner used for a security system. There is also a "Bulldog Alarm" sticker in the back glass of the hardtop. Don't see what purpose it would pose for a security system though.

It could have been for something like a starter interlock.
