rattle/knock hear at 40+ mph

Hello all. I have a 97 Sport. I was recently driving on the highway, at about 60mph. Suddenly, I felt a bang as though I hit a good bump in the road (and I may have). After that, I heard what I would describe as a rattle, or knock, coming from around the passenger floor area (I think).
I pulled over immediately, looked under the Jeep, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. I got back in, started driving and all seemed fine until I reached about 40mph. Then the rattle/knock started again. I continued driving home without any other issues (about 8 miles).
Shifting seems normal (manual). I've notice that the noise is not related to a particular gear, because I can hear it in 4th as well as 5th at 40+. In 4th at 30-35mph, no noise that I can tell. Also, I only notice noise at 40+ when pressing on the accelorator. Once I take my foot off the pedal, even when going 40+, the noise is not present. Again, aside from the noise, the Jeep appears to be functioning normally.

Any ideas what could be causing that noise? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could be lots of things.. muffler hanger, u-joint, t-case skid.. How hard did you hit? If it starts and stops with the gas.. I would check into the u-joints first..both drive shaft and then axle while your checking..

maybe your internals of your cat let go when u hit a bump. and around 40 mph or so it makes just the right vibration to rattle the internals, sound crazy but it happened to me. Park it, get under the jeep and kick or shake your exhaust, if its your cat you'll hear the rattle
