Rattle on hard take off

Hi all I am new to the site but have had my jeep for some time now. I have had this problem from the day I got it and have not found what it is making the nose.

When I take off hard or spin in soft mud/sand I get this rattle from under the tub. I would say it on the pass side and to toward the middle around the trams are dose any one have any ideas or had this problem thanks for the help in advance

I had an old zj that rattled. Not sure if yours is the same but give your cat a little kick and see if you hear the stuff inside rattles around.

I would have never guessed on mine and I accidentally found it on mine when I was lifting it one day.

I am having the exact same problem, I recently figured out my front axle u joints are bad. I would also check the driveshaft u joint.

I had a rattle when idling in some conditions, that I also heard when accelerating some times. Was a loose heat shield on the top of my catalytic converter. It was rusted off on three of four points where it attached so I yanked it off. Found some of the exterior of the muffler was starting to peel off from rust, so I just bent that to where it had no space anymore. Viola, no more rattle/bang on idle or accel.

Ok My buddy and I are determined to figure out this noise we just got in the Jeep took it for a spin. Took the carpet out And it is definitely coming from the front driver side I can feel it hit the floor Towards about the pedal area. It's not so much a rattle as a tapping on the body

I had a bad transmission mount have the same symptoms. Crawl under the jeep and try to pick up on the transmission and wiggle it. If it moves at all that could be your problem....just a thought.

I noticed I am having a similar rattle to what you guys are describing. I noticed the rattle after I installed my lift kit. Apparently 4x4xplor has a write up on how to fix it. I would like to try it out to see if that cures my problem but I am having a hard time making time. Here is the write up and more info:

awsome info, i am going to try this soon. my mechanic thought the noise was coming from the driveshaft hitting the actualy linkage on hard takeoffs. if i remember from last time i was under the jeep, the boot on my linkage is totally gone.

Well i went to my local dealer and they had that kit in stock. I was hoping work on it this weekend. One question, to remove the long linkage rod that goes to the tcase, do the plastic end pieces just break off?

Definitely sounds like the transfer case linkage. Mine does the same thing- definitely a tap on the body and not a rattle.

I went to the dealer and had to order it said it will be in tomorrow, it only cost 25 bucks so def give it a try. Right now we are getting hit with a bunch on snow and rain so not sure when I will get the chance to put it in.

Yea I hear that, i have the kitnow but not the time to put it in. At least i am not that worried about the noise. At first i thought it was a u-joint, then i had visions of the driveshaft smashing up the linkage. Now it seems like it is a harmless (for a short term) but annoying sound.

Thank you very much. I would really enjoy that, I hope it solves the rattle or knocking. I will order this kit from the stealership anyways for the price.

If you're low on money, get some wire and wrap it around the bumping part, and the metal bracket on the tub. it will keep it from making the noise and it will still be functional.

This will save you the time of having to replace it, although a new one would be a better fix obviously.

IT'S GONE NO MORE RATTLE/THUMPING

I can't believe it took that long to find out what that noise was and only took 30 min to fix it. I will post a full write up on it after work or in the moning

I got my kit! If you do the write up I'd appreciate it a lot!

How difficult would you say it was?

Here is a good writeup on this: Jeep TJ Transfer Case Shifter Knocking TSB

I'm wondering if fixing this would also fix the 4LO popping out issue?
