Hubby and I got a free tire rotation about two weeks ago when we had our oil changed. (We had plans to tackle it ourselves, but we put it off far too long and just needed to get it done). The mechanic working on our LJ said a couple things. 1) Our brakes are new. Yay! 2) Rear main seal is leaking slightly, which I understand is a common issue. He advised doing nothing until it starts getting bad. As an aside, does anyone know if an aftermarket warranty ever covers replacement of the rear main seal?
A couple days afterward, we began noticing a bit of a squeak. Sounds like it's coming from somewhere on the front driver's side. I really can't pinpoint the location because the sound only occurs while driving and I'm too busy driving to stick my ear down there lol. It has now become louder and sounds more like a rattle than a squeak. Difficult to describe... It does not make the sound all the time, but does occur most noticeably during acceleration and deceleration when traveling between 35-45 mph... but not all the time. It's more frequent than it was, however, which leads me to believe that this issue is becoming worse...?
Any ideas on what this might be? Simple things, I can check myself if you can post pictures telling me what exactly I need to be looking at. I have a LOT to learn about our Jeep. Anything more complicated, we can take it to our mechanic in the family and have him check it out.
