Rear axel bearing?

Heres what I found,I did some digging and thought the humming might be rear u joints so I jacked up the rear out of gear no break and there was no play in the drive shaft but when I grab each rear tire they both move about 1/4 in in and out, does this sound like axel bearings and how $$$$. Thanks guys

1/4 inch is a lot, but there is in/out play. Worn bearings will give you radial play not axial. I still wouldn't rule out axle bearings, nor pinion bearings. Sure is not the tires?

As far as axle bearings go, I don't know what a shop would cost, but they are fairly easy to replace. You will need a bearing puller, and I don't know if that is on the loaner list at autoparts stores. Pretty sure you can find one cheap enough at Harbor Freight that will work fine. Seal puller will come in handy too. Pinion bearing is little more complicated.
