Both of my rear axle seals are leaking. It looks like they are pressed on. Does anyone know if you have to press the new desks back on with a 12 ton press or not? I'm trying to do this in my driveway and need advice. I've ordered two new rear axles bearings and seals...only prob is I don't have a press. Any Jeepers in Okc area in Oklahoma have one/or ideas?
The seal itself just slides on, but the bearing and wedding ring have to be pressed on. You could probably get them pressed on at a shop for pretty cheap if you take the shafts to them.
You could also upgrade to Revolution brand axle shafts, as I am pretty sure they come ready to install, pressed and all. I know you didn't ask about new axles, but just some food for thought in case you might someday want beefier axle shafts.
A long piece of pipe just big enough to fit over the axleshaft may work, that's been my go-to for pressing center bearings on truck driveshafts for years.
My mechanic changed a right rear axle seal last year ( 3000 miles) now it is leaking again. He is suggesting to change the axle shaft as he feels that an out of round shaft is the problem. My 05 TJ has 75000 miles on it and the job will be around 565.
Does this seem correct.
thanks

I am in OKc area. PM me. If I can't help, I definitely know someone that can.
