Rear axle shaft play...should I be worried?

2003 TJ, D35c in the rear.

In my opinion, excessive in and out play in the rear shafts. I know other members have posted similar issues here with 50% of the responses saying it is normal to the C clip design.

Here is a clear video of my passenger rear (drivers side is exactly the same). It has done this for at least a year and has not changed. Can someone take the time to look at this video and ease my mind? It would be much appreciated.

The clunking that comes from this issue while backing out of a driveway is very noticeable and I want to finally get this fixed if someone does not say this is normal play.

That in-out play is not only 100% normal, it is actually required. That play is needed so the axle can be shoved inward during maintenance to expose the c-clip inside the differential so it can be removed which allows the axle shaft to be removed.

That looks like mine did when the bearings on the carrier were toast, pull the cover and check for excessive play
