Rear Diff Cover and Gas Tank

I have changed a few diff covers, but never on a Jeep. Can it be done with the gas tank in place, or does the tank need to be removed?

I don't have a lift installed and it looks pretty cramped back there. I didn't know what the standard practice was on changing a rear diff cover.

umm well you know crack all the bolts then take out the bottom to the last top bolt LEAVE that bolt in there or you will wear gear oil! let it drain into the pan then side it out if it hits the rear sway bar just loosin the bolts holding it in place and that will give you all the room you need.

If you haven't gotten more out of the insurance company than you deserve, then you haven't screwed them nearly as much as they have been screwing you for the past xx years.

my jeep is sinfully stock and I had no problems taking the cover off for a fluid change. I would say you shouldn't have any issues.
