rear diff leak

i changed the front diff fluid a little while ago and planed on doing the rear that night as well, but you know how that goes...

so i noticed since i took the rear plug out (D35) to check the fluid and popped it back in, it's been leaking down the diff cover a little. Recently ive noticed a lot has been coming out, not dripping but more "stain" on the diff cover.

Now im going to change it some time soon, but here is my question. Once i change the fluid (removing the cover) and i put the plug back in the diff cover, will it continue to leak by? would a little RTV around that plug be ok?

You may have just cross threaded the plug when you reinstalled it. I would just change the fluid, reinstall the cover and plug and see what happens.

I wouldn't put anything around the plug.

it will continue to leak, replacing the plug with a new one might help....or you can try some RTV...

rubber plugs leak pretty consistently.
