Rear Main leak

I have an 04 Rubicon w/ 4.0 and the rear main is leaking. Are their any oil treatments to add to stop the leak without replacing the seal?

Are you sure that it's actually the rear main and not just the valve cover leaking above it?

I had mine replaced at 17,000 miles. It started again at 25,000 but it cleared up. The dealer put die in it to make sure it was the rear seal the first time. After 2 weeks of driving, they had to replace it. Been told its common.

I would think that that would be part of the 6yr/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. You should ask your dealer about it.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

There is no such thing as a mechanic in a can. There are some products that swell the seals and temporarily stop the leak but will usually damage the rest of the good seals in the end, your call. Like was said, make sure it isn't your valve cover first. Alot of rear main seals have been replaced because of valve cover leaks.

When you say leaking, what do you mean???

The rear main on my '03 Rubicon was "leaking" since the day I bought it, finally got around to replacing it a few months back and 65k miles later.

It did not lead enough to drip...just kinda sorta seeped a little, but never left a mark on the drive way.

Is it in warranty? Well I have a 7/70k warranty on my Jeep and the dealer said it was not in warranty due to mods on the engine causing it to create too much HP [Avenger Supercharger] so they denied it. So did another dealer.

In fact 2 dealers have totally denied any drive-line work at all due to it being "heavily modified" with such mods as "custom rocker guards and custom fenders", yes those are quotes.

On the other hand you can replace the rear main seal yourself, here is my writeup:

My rear mains been leaking since the day I bought her. Also not enough to drip, just enough to make a mess under there. No worries, park in the grass if its real bad. Taking out the tranny just to replace a seal is a pain.

I bumped up to 10w40 synthetic oil, also cause in North Carolina its 60+Degrees here most of the year. 5w30 I feel is too thin unless youre in cold climates in the wintertime.
