Rear main seal and reverse gear

Got a small leak between my oil pan and tranny. I'm almost sure its the rear main seal. any thoughts?

Also, I've noticed reverse gear sometimes slips out. My transmission is a NV3550 (2003 jeep rubicon) I talked to a transmission specialist and told him my symptoms. He told me those trannies are really tough to get in to reverse sometimes. He recommended that I shift into 3rd gear then into reverse and that seems to help. He didnt think it was a bad synchronizer. All the other gears work properly. Was just wondering if anyone (with a NV3550 tranny) has similar issues.

rear main most likely your leak, but check drain plug. as for tranny, most people don't know what they have. Mine's a ax-15, and with the wrong fluid I found it hard to shift. seems to like synthetic better. If the nv3550 Is anything like the nv4500 it uses a specific type of gear lube.

You mentioned a small leak. No need to rush and have it fixed, it's real common with the 4.0 motors. Mine may drip a couple of drops a week. The dealer quoted me a bunch to fix it and that was a year ago and it hasn't gotten worse. Just keep an eye on your oil level.

I have the AX15 tranny so I'm not familiar with yours.

I just had the tranny fluid, front and rear diff and transfer case fluids changed out. I made sure they used the factory recommended fluids
