Rear track bar help

How do I get the track bar off? It says remove track bar mount and track bar and reinstall after mounting relocate bracket, but I cant get the track bar off. I dont see how the mount would come off, it looks welded to the axle to me. any body know? its dark, late and Im starting to throw tools around the driveway.

The mount is welded to the axle. Don't remove it.


There are 2 bolts. 1 at the frame. 1 at the axle. So there are some pretty easy instructions to follow.

1.) Remove both bolts.
2.) Remove track bar.


I start at the frame. Might help to jack up the body to gain access to the axle bolt. It is a T55 last I remembered. It's been awhile since I mess with them.

I have the lower one out, kind of a pain to get to, I wasnt sure if I had to remove the upper one. Thanks for the info. FT directions suck ass, doing this by trial and error

I always put the axle bolt in first and maneuver the frame mount in last on install. Always seems to work better for me.

*HINT* Jack up your jeep and put it on jack stands under the frame. Let the axle droop down and you will gain easier access to the frame side track bar bolt. I always clean up the treads before I install the used bolt.

Once you install the track bar into the axle bracket make sure you don't torque down the bolt. Leave it loose to have easier access for the frame side bracket. Adjust height of your axle with a jack to make install easier.


Then... since you bought a FT track bar.... live with the track bar hitting your gas tank.

using the stock rear tb, came with the relocation bracket.

ooooh. That's different. I always weld the track bar brackets to the axle since the bolts don't do a damn bit of good. Once you get the bracket installed be sure to keep an eye on it. Definitely use red loctite on all the nuts and bolts to give it a fighting chance to stay secure.

then you shouldn't have to disco it from the frame but it may be easier to install the axle mount side then the fram mount even though your using the factory bar with the relocation braket..

I've never had good luck with pulling the stock track bar out of the axle bracket without removing the frame bolt. That bracket is crappy. And you really only miss it when it rips off the axle.

10 to 4 in the morning, just finished the lift. Just gotta do alignment after a power nap. Thanks for the help on the tb guys, big help. (I really need a shop, working on a shale driveway sucks.)

When I installed my FT lift, I took one look at the instructions and threw them away. They REALLY sucked. The lift is pretty straight-forward really. I did it by myself and didn't have any problems even though it was the first coilspring lift I'd ever done. I do have to re-tighten the rear tb relo-bracket every week.....gonna get it welded sometime when I have the chance. Other than that, I'm really happy with the articulation and the ride on and off road. Hope you have the same results with yours!!!!

Im having probs with the TC drop. Now I cant get it to shift in 2nd, 4th, and reverse.

Can't help you there.....I didn't install the TC drop. I installed 2 washers per bolt on the skid, didn't need any more than that. I'm also running the 4-speed auto, so also can't help with your manual shifting probs. Try removing the TC drop spacers, installing washers, and see if that helps.

Or remove the foam from around the shifter rod....it's under the rubber boot.

I had this porblem when I forgot and left in my TC drop and installed my MML. I took it out and it still didn't feel right, the shifter was right on the dash in 1st 3rd and 5th. I took my shifter arm off and bent it below the boot and everything else worked good.

I have the MML already, dropped down 2 washers, pops out of 2nd gear, vibrates like crazy. I first used the drop kit that came with the kit, but couldn't get the shifter past neutral. I hope these vibs dont screw anything up because I need the Jeep tomorrow for work.
