Remote start 2000 TJ?

It's getting cold in the mornings around here...

I'm trying to learn more about a Remote Start for my 2000 TJ, Auto

I'm trying to keep this affordable 200 or less, if possible.

But I'd like to use my iPhone if possible to start up.

Has anyone used a system like Viper or Python?

How do they work, and how hard is the install?

Thank you.

You're not going to get a Viper system for around $200… Check local car audio places for auto start systems that'll fit your needs.

id find a dealer and have it installed. there is alot of cutting and splicing involved and if anything goes wrong you can take it back to the dealer.. i had a autopage with all the bells and whistles installed in my ford super duty and it was just under 500$....i know around my area for 200 your only gonna get a very basic remote start...

Ok thanks guys.

How about just a bare bones remote start system without iPhone ability?

How cheap can I find one of those?

I don't have power locks or anything.

I need just a basic remote start system

What are my options?

I'm good with installing it myself, I've done stereos and alarm systems before.

I got the avetal remote start install at bestbuy.
Avital - 4111 Remote Start System (Basic Install Included) - Black - 4111L

I paid i think 150 total for the remote start and for them to install it. my rig doesn't have a chipped key so it was cheap no added cost. Its an ok remote start works great buy kinda low on range, but works well for me

Just had one installed this week in my daughters 06 TJ for Christmas. The basic model was $99. I went for the one with extended range (1000 feet) and flashes the lights so you know it started. It was $129. With tax and all was $140 out the door installed. Model is VIPER 130XV.

Oh and that's with no chip it the key. If your key has a chip it is probably a little more. Black key = no chip, Grey key = chip.

This was at local Mobile Electronics shop, Mickey Shorr.

You can get good remote starts installed for under two. Best buy will do it and warranty the unit and labor. The no chip key saves you big money. How do i know? I was am installer for them for six years in deptford nj.

The local car stereo shop I used to work for sold the basic remote start for 149.00 installed around the holidays, but if other parts were needed then they drove up the price quite a bit... Most newer vehicles need some kind of smart key emulator, and those were between 70-150 dollars depending on the vehicle.

How difficult is the Avital 4111 to install? Black key, non-chip. No power windows, or locks.

The iphone part alone is going to top your budget, and thats just buying it, to hell with the install part.
And do a google search and see how many are happy with vipers servers being able to handle the remote start via your phone. Last year no one was.
I have a viper in both my jeep and car (one remote for both, very handy). Jeep has every bell/whistle other than the "start from phone" because like I said a year ago, it was shit. I think I paid just under $400 out the door for the jeeps remote start/Alarm system installed at Best Buy with a lifetime warranty on the install from BB and lifetime on the system from Viper.

I ended up getting an Avital remote start new, for less the 40 bucks. I decided that I really didnt need the iPhone feature because, to be honest I can put that money towards other Jeep goodies.

My Jeep doesnt have power windows, locks, or alarm system. It's a bare bones TJ.

I'm going to try to do the install myself. Hopefully it won't be too difficult.

Goooooooood luck my friend. I've been installing them for years and it's still a two hour job. Make sure you get a spec sheet on wiring. You can slip an installer at best buy or other type place ten bucks for one. It'll make the job much easier. It's def not like installing a radio or cb.

Question. I recently bought a Wrangler and it already has a remote start installed but didn't have a remote. So I bought a replacement remote and downloaded the installation manual. I got it programmed but it will only start with the key in the "on" position. Otherwise when you hit the remote start button, it activates the system and hits the starter, but doesnít crank. The valet works and I can remove the key. I don't think itís the systems problem. It is a 2000 4.0 auto non sentry keyed wrangler. I went through the wiring to check for loose connections and everything looks good. Is there anything that I should look specifically for? Does anyone have one of the spec sheets mentioned in post #23 in PDF form they can send me? I was thinking about buying a new system and swapping it out but I donít want to have the same problem. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
