I'm getting really frustrated. I had a slight leak on my front diff. No big deal right just change the pinion seal. I've never done it before but I watched a video and it looked easy enough. I'm trying to remove the big nut that holds the yolk and I can't budge it. No luck with the impact gun. No luck with the ratchet and cheater bar. Tried penetrating oil still no movement. Is there a chance that is reverse threaded and I'm tightening it? Is there any danger of breaking anything by putting extra pressure on it?
That nut has a standard RH thread so lefty-loosey. A decent 1/2" impact wrench adjusted to its highest torque setting should have no problem at all removing that nut. Have the jeep in 4x4, in gear or Park, and parking brake on if it's a manual transmission and try it again.
I wasn't able to get mine off with a high quality impact wrench either..
Make sure somebody is standing on the brakes while you use a really long breaker bar.
