Ok so I busted the center yoke pressing u joints in with my impact. A needle had laid down not allowing the cap to fully seat. I gave it a little extra bump with the gun and blew out the recessed grove that holds the clip. I picked up a new spicer one from crown but it has a hole in the middle on either side. Same part # cast by the looks of what wasnt cut out. And theyre identical otherwise. Whats with theater hole?

Mine is also Spicer. Has Spicer and part number cast in the side.

If I were to hazard a guess as to purpose, I would imagine it is for getting a grease gun on a fitting for the centering ball.

Thats my guess. I called and the guy at crown called up their main office and they said spicer updated it.
