I would only use an OEM, aftermarket pumps are cheap and garbage IMO.

Stick with OEM and you will be much happier in the long run. The Autozone cheap pumps are exactly that, cheap. Too many problems with them. Sure they have a lifetime warranty, but if it dies on you when you really need it what did you gain?

And you believe the water pump is the cause of the overheating condition because…?

Make sure it really needs the pump. The only way the pump will usually cause a problem is if the impeller breaks or slips on the shaft...or maybe it is leaking a lot. Otherwise do some troubleshooting. I never replace a part until I know for sure it is the problem. Then I would echo everyone else and go OEM.

My radiator went bad after 120,000 miles. Only reason I changed out water pump was because it was easier with the radiator out so I took the opportunity.

There are several reasons that can cause a TJ to overheat, a bad water pump is only one of them. Have you verified the operation of the thermostat? At the least, before going to the expense and trouble of replacing the water pump, I would first replace the thermostat... and make sure the new thermostat is NOT a fail-safe type and that has the proper 195 degree rating.

The two times in two TJs I have had an overheating problem, it turned out to be a bad (sticking) thermostat in both of them. Hard water deposits in the radiator can clog it up and cause the engine to overheat too... especially if you have made a habit of using tap water to mix with the coolant.

I replaced my radiator earlier this year and for peace of mind I also changed the thermostat, water pump and both radiator hoses while I was at it. I would definately recommend OEM when it comes to any internal parts or any electrical parts on any vehicle. If you decide to replace the water pump this is where I got mine at and it's half the price of my local dealership for the same part!
