Replacing factory subwoofer

I haver an 02 wrangler x with a factory sub. It's blown now.....i wanted to replace it. Can I replace the sub itself or do I have to get the whole assembly?

You can replace it!I did mine,wasn't all that hard!Use a 6" mid-bass driver,and if it is not a D.V.C.,as the factory one is,only hook up two of the wires,and tape the other two up,to prevent shorting out and frying the factory amp.You have to remove entire console for access.It took me about an hour and a half,start-to-finish,but I have 18 years of professional car audio in my past.If you are green,allow yourself half a day!

I used this one and it sounds good and it was only 10 bucks and I got 2 tweeters for free (not sure if they are still offering that or not). It's SVC and it works but I think Kicker now makes a DVC that will fit. It's like 100 bucks though.

Pyramid (PW677X) 300W Max, 6.5" SVC 4 Ohm Power Series Subwoofer

DVC = Dual Voice Coil.

You do not need one to replace the original. It would be nice, but not required.

I put in a Kicker compVT65 shallow mount in mine and drive it with a cheap Boss amp, all for under $100 easily and it sounds 100 of times better than original.

I don't think you can wire in an Ipod jack to the factory radio.

You can replace the factory radio with something better that had this option already. most have some type of cable coming out the back that you can run to the glove box. you can plug in the ipod to that and store/lock it in the glove box out of sight.

Or, most have some AUX port on the front that allows you to plug the ipod into...

I spent a couple hours reading old threads on this same topic a few months ago and decided on this: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=290-352. I had to cut/grind a lot more of the ribs in the stock enclosure than I expected but it will fit and sounds great.

I used an MB Quart mid-bass driver,which was a perfect fit,other than having to make new holes.Since I am Caucasian,over 40,hate rap,and mainly listen to Classic Rock and Classic Country,I utilized the factory amp.Worked out fine,sounds great,and since I run without doors and top as much as possible,that leaves at least one less 'STEAL ME" item to have to worry about!

I'm not sure but on this link it shows it's a 6.5 but if you reference it anywhere else on the internet it's 6 inches.

Much thanks for everyone on the forum....ended up picking Pyramid WX65X for dirt cheap about 16 bucks shipped. Everything is buttoned up now, easy install. But i'm already missing the bass of the stock sub!
