Replacing front speakers

I am thinking about replacing the front oval 4X6 speakers with 5.25 speakers. My question is what has to be done to do this. Is there some trimming of the bak of the speaker area? I know I need an adapter bracket to make it work but does anyone know where to find them at?

Send a message via Yahoo to distortedtj
Crutchfield.com can hook you up with the brackets.

I checked there and all I could find were the ones for a 4" speaker. Any help?

I got my adapters on ebay. You have to cut the metal brace that the adapter screws into. There's a good write up here somewhere about it.

The adaptors are all over ebay. Depending on your Jeep, there may not be anything to cut. I did not on my 03.

Thanks cdubu52 just what I wa looking for. Now just gotta get some cash to go get them and some speakers. And I've got a 1999 so I'm looking at it and thinking it's gotta be cut. No problems there though. Anybody have any recommendations on speakers for the front?

We put Polk Audio 5.25's in mine and 6.5's in the sound bar, along with a new head unit it sounds infinitely better...

I bought a set of metal adapters off Ebay. There was no cutting required, the speakers slid right behind the brace in the dash with no problems.
