Ok, so my 03 sahara, 4.0 with 5 speed. I have a very hard time backing up in 4hi. It seems almost as if it doesnt want to move backwards in 4wd and when i do get it moving, If i let off the gas and back to the clutch it stops really abruptly. Is this normal and im just doing something wrong, or could it be an issue with my jeep? 4wd system works great forward and reverse works perfect when in 2WD.
Jack it up and put the axles on jackstands. Try it out then and see if you have any issues. If not, there must be some binding happening in the driveline somewhere when the wheels are making contact.
UPDATE. I went out to the store today and decided to try it one more time, just for giggles. And sure enough... It backed right up like normal in 4hi. I dont know what i was doing to it but I must have been doing something wrong somewhere..
if your doing this 4hi stuff on dry pavement...stop, before you break something
