Reverse Lights

I have a 1998 TJ with 80,000 miles, 2" lift, 31" BFG's.

I have put about $3,000 into this Jeep and I'm not real keen on taking it back to my mechanic.

Here's My Problem: My reverse lights are on constantly when I have my headlights on. This is begging for me to get pulled over when driving at night.

The reverse lights do not turn on when I pop it in reverse when the headlights are either on or off. Any advice?

Reverse Lights Follow-Up

I don't think my last thread was clear.....

In other words, my reverse lights are on only when my headlights are on, and when the headlights are on, the reverse lights are on.

The reverse lights do not respond when I put it in reverse. They're on constantly when I have the headlights on. Regardless of whether I have my headlights on or off, the reverse lights don't come on when I put it in reverse. They simply stay on when I have my headlights on.

Again....any advice???

Did you buy it with this problem or did it just start? I understand what your saying but I can't figure anything out. Let me drink another beer and I may have an idea for ya! sorry

The previous owner probably backed the jeep into something and had the tail lights replaced. Sounds like the wires are crossed. Our tail lights don't have connectors since they are trailer lights, so you need to solder new lights in. I think the wires are incorrect. Take the lamp off and pull some wire out. See if it looks like they messed with the wires of it it is factory.

I would check to see if your park or brake lights come on when you put it into "reverse" and your turn signals too.

P.S. for now you could just remove the bulbs as a temp fix.
