Ring and Pinion questions

I think that my 99 Wrangler has a Dana 35 rear and a Dana 30 front, right? My ring and pinion in the rear are just about shot, so I was thinking of going with a 4.88 set from Alloy USA. What all do I need to change and can I swap the gears in the rear without changing the front if I don't put it into 4WD? One more question, if am able to go with 4.88's can I go with 35's? Any and all input is greatly appreciated!

Yes since you have an se model you have the D30 / D35. I believe you can swap the gears in just the rear if you don't use 4WD. I would just wait till you can swap the front also if you can. And I would not run any bigger than 33's on the D35 from what i have heard.

As Nicosuave said, I would not run 35" tires on a Dana 35. Besides, with your SE, 33" tires and 4.88 gearing is an ideal combination. Even if the Dana 35c were up to 35" tires, the 2.5L engine is not even with 4.88 gearing. I'd regear to 4.88 but stick with your existing 33" tires. All this assumes your tranny is the 5-speed since the recommended ratio would be different (4.56) if you had an automatic transmission.

Yeah, it is the 5 speed. Thanks for all of your help. Not sure yet if the misses will go for getting both front and rear just yet...
