Piss ant, I see what you mean and I will be getting pocket style fender flares and keeping the stock fenders, I won't be adding the metalcloak fenders just because that look is not really for me. I want some sliders that both protect the underside well and look decent, which I think almost all look pretty good. It's my dd and will be for a long time. I have been wanting to take it on more trails and off roading but I've only had it since September and a month or two again I had a transmission problem so I've been careful with it. I just want to see some peoples sliders on and the under side of them. Thank you!
Every Shittybuilt "slider" or bar I have seen that has actually gone off road is dented and smashed. I would look for something made in the USA and sufficiently strong to serve the intended purpose.
I like the MC fenders but they are not for me either. I much prefer the stock look as I do not enjoy having rocks and mud slung all over the place. If I am going to have a fender I would like for it actually to serve the purpose of a fender, deflecting mud, rocks and debris from me and other persons on the roadways. For a mostly off road Jeep I can see the almost no fender, fenders but for a DD, no way.
If you are planning on using them as rock sliders, get some that go from wheel well to wheel well and don't leave the first or last few inches unprotected. I used Rokmen's which I've really been happy with and have beat them pretty hard in the rocks..They have held up great and the workmanship is top shelf. Rokmen Mercenary Rock Sliders (SWB)
I made my own out of 3/16th steel. 7 inches of under tub protection and a backing plate inside the tub. However, if I was in the market for rock sliders my top choice would be what my buddy IslandTJ runs Drop-Kick Slyders
I would not get a slider that mounts to the tub as a hard impact will still cause damage like you see here with Poison Spyder's mounted on a LJ

Attributing the bending tub in that picture to all rock sliders that bolt to the tub is painting with a pretty broad brush. If they are designed right, that wouldn't happen. Just take a look at the picture you posted...75% of the side steel is missing where the PS emblem is, then the step part gets an extra lever point right at the back edge of the step...who knows what the bottom looks like..!
I've pretty much bashed mine on rocks from straight down and just about every side force imaginable with no damage to the tub, and no real damage to the sliders other than some scraping that was easily sanded off and repainted. Plus I've not lost any of the ground clearance that frame mounted sliders do.
I'm running Warn Rock sliders. They don't have a step or anything to bash my shins!! Love them. I didn't want and don't need the step that come with other brands.
As I would love to buy any of those suggestions, I forgot to mention I am sort of on a budget because I am 17. I would like to spend under 300 but I know if I want good protection underneath, I'll be pushing that price.
I installed ACE sliders ACE TJ Rock Sliders on mine. You can pick them up from northridge 4x4 for around $270 with free shipping. I wanted to keep my existing rubi sliders. They do hang below the tub so you will loose some clearance. They did their job by keeping big rocks away from my body during my latest trip to the Rubicon Trail.
