rocker question

thinkin about buyin some rockers...and disadvantages of drilling in to the body?

on to the next question

i noticed that the rockers only connect to the tub from the side...they do not have any point of connection underneath...will this be enough? if i only use the bolts in the area from the side, will the bolts eventually tear the sheet metal in the tub, etc. ?

Buy some that go through the tub. My set of BTF rockers go all the way through the tub into the floor pan where your feet are. Check this out

Kinda off to the side but you see the holes in the rockers that go under the tub? I'm going to fix up some plates and run longer bolts all the way through the tub.

Definitely get some that wrap under the tub. If they only bolt to the side and don't wrap under, if you land on a rock and slide off sideways, you'll pull the guards away from the tub and the bolts will either rip out or worse, fold your tub to the inside towards your feet like it was a tin can. This of course would ruin your tub and maybe your sliders and you would curse the day you saved $100 to spend $2000 on a new tub or worse, you turn it in to insurance and they total your toy.

1999 XJ Four door, mostly stock for now, but I am in the process of building a custom plate bumper.

I have the shrockworks rockers and they are very nice. As for drilling holes in the body, You can drill a few holes or risk smashing the heck out of your body. I used some silcon to seal the area's around the bolts to prevent water from getting in as well as the top edge of the rockers.

lol yeah thats what i heard...read something about rocker gasket too...anyway...moneypit you said get some that wrap under the tub and not ones that just bolt on the side...so how about some that bolt on the body (on the rocker panel with 5 bolts) (not on the frame though) ?

the ones im looking at now (not the ones that bolt on the side) are ones that bolt on the body (rocker panel) like i said with the 5 bolts and they come under the tub a little like in MR. CLIFFORDS pic...that get wide at the end and are thin at one point...is that what you mean by wrap under the tub?

Thats what he was talking about with saying Rockers that bolt under the tub and on the side of the tub. There are companies that make Rockers that bolt to the body mounts however. Poison Spyders are this way.

Those look good and from the pic I think they actually mount underneath above the body mounts also. You just have to clearance 3/16 off of the mounts so that they will match up to your remaining body mounts.

Thanks for that link too. I am diggin that front bumer they have there.

for the first part of your paragraph of your post: huh? clear 3/16" of my body mounts? im an amateur! i know that part of the rocker goes underneath as you can see that part of it does in the pic but i don't see any holes to bolt on there all i see is those little slot opening things

second part: someone (i believe surfnsnow) had that bumper for sale on here!

i may have to get a shop to install these for me!

Not if you use a anti-water hydrostatic silcone in either almond or nutmeg.

Those slots that you see on the underside of that slider mount on the bolts of the back two body mounts I believe. They slide right on top of the frame mount and the then body puck goes on top of it. Now the steel is 3/16 thick so on those two body pucks you have to shave 3/16 off of them so that they are still level with the rest of the body pucks.

Look at the sliders that Clifford was showing from Blue Torch Fab. They have mounting holes that are drilled thru the tub. The ones you show mount to the frame/body mounts.

Well of course not off the bat, that's why I use a liquid sandible poly primier then when buffed turns the color of either the rocker or the Jeep.

learned the hard way... put a good dent in my driver side rocker and went right out and picked up some rubi rockers.. have hit a few times since with no damage at all.

Are you saying shrockworks aren't worth the money? Cuz I was thinking they looked rather sturdy.

If you look at the post above mine, he quoted someone about shrockwork rockers, that's what gave me pause.

Unfortunately, referencing that post made it sound like he'd learned the hard way and had to replace his shrockworks rockers with new ones. I just wanted to be clear on it, because shrockworks are what I have my eye on.
