RockHard Cage = Done

Well I actually tackled this one myself and I gotta say, I'm glad I did.

(Not a write-up)

I started on Wednesday by cleaning, priming and painting the cage. I used 3 can of hammered black spray paint. Then on Saturday night I pulled the top off, removed the speakers, trimmed the windshield molding and test fit the pieces. Today I was able to finish everything up.

The quality of the parts are spot on and BEEFY. The fit of the parts are very precise so you really have to take your time and be prepared for lots of tweaking. But it wan't anything a BFH and some ratchet straps couldn't handle.

I still need to install the floor supports. That'll give me something to do next weekend.

From what I've read it shouldn't. The only problem Viking Top/RockHard Cage owners were having is with the rear spreader bar. I didn't install the rear spreader.

Nope, the top is staying. You read it wrong because you're an IDIOT.

So i haven't read anything about the top lately. Might as well screw this thread up and ask how you are liking it, and is it that much better than a normal top when going up and down??

Looks good Scout. You should have gone with red to match all the other little splashes of color.

It's still a pain in the ass to put up and down but I still like it much better than the OEM top. The top is functioning as designed it's just not as "simple" to use as they make it out to be. All in all, I'd buy the top again.

Ya know, I was really close to doing that. Although, I'm kinda glad I didn't.

Is it faster to put up and down than stock?? What are the benefits of it?? Faster, quieter, tighter, harder to put up??

It's probably about the same as the OEM as far as putting it up and down - just different.

Noise is about he same, maybe a little more noise and it's VERY VERY VERY tight. Putting it back down when the sun isn't shining is almost impossibe.

Yes it completes where the factory left off. It's the top t-section, the bar across the dash and the two bars on the A pillar. I also have the floor tie-ins but I haven't installed them yet. Hopefully I can get those in next weekend.

FYI - they also sell all the parts you need to beef up the rear of your OEM cage too. I'll add some of it later on. That's what's really nice about this set up, you can add to it over time.

88 88 88 A - Maybe I'll figure out some way to mount the doors to that top t-section.

Is there any welding or drilling? Can you lay down your windshield and it's still there? Bolts to the floor?

I know, lots of questions, but it's pretty cool and I'm curious.

x2 on the quality of the rock hard cage. like scout said it takes some work but nothing a bfh won't help. there was no drilling or welding but there are 2 pieces that go around the windshield that need to be cut if you leave them out then the noise level from the wind goes up. In hindsight, I would've gotten a weld in cage instead which would have been the same price.

Thanks guys (and gals)!

Tiny, it's 100% BOLT ON. No drilling or welding is required. I'm sure a weld in cage would have been about the same price but I'm happy with this cage. After you take a look at the parts you'll see it's really beefy. I'm confident that this thing will help protect my noggin if I ever have to actually use it. (knock on wood).

Hey Scout...That looks freakin' sweet.
Oh great...now i want one! Damn peer pressure...
"Well, all the cool people have a neat bolt on cage!"
It's times like this that I'm glad I'm not married anymore!
All I have to deal with after the expense is the guilt of spending the cash....
If you don't mind me asking, where did you get it and how much?

Thanks cc.

I bought it from Northridge 4x4. I think it was $ 539 for the main cage and $ 150 (or so?) for the floor tie-ins.

Sweet...a Black Op! I'm in! Do you wanna join me Tiny? We will rendezvous at 2100 hours. Bring a black ski mask and wear loose fitting black tactical clothing. You will also need rappelling gear. I'll PM you with the schematics of Scouts kitchen, where the Jeep is located! :hysterical:
