Rougher idle when gas tank is close to empty

Hello all.

Don't know if it's in my mind or if it's true but it seems like when my Jeep is low on gas, it's a bit rougher on idle.

When the gas tank is full, it's smoother.

I know it's better to let a Jeep sit with a full tank rather than an empty one (less condensation) but does it really affect performance?
