Seafoam?

What's the consensus about using a can of sea foam on the vacuum line? Something that should be done every once in a while or something to avoid? I've read a few places where people suck a can into the vacuum line as part of maintenance and tune up. Good idea or no?

speaking of pos lawnmowers, teh cheap ones at Lowe's, Home depot and wal mart all have carbs that will totally crap out after one season using E-10 gas seafoam or not, prayer or not, the onnly fix is what I did today, recycle the mower into a utility cart and get a reel mower. My reel mower is 50 years old, no motor problems cause it has no motor and it gives a better cut than ANY gasoline mower made in the last 20 years.
Only thing I have ever done is change the blades on the reel twice and put a different type of handle on it causethe original broke
Yeah man I bought this thing at K-Mart last spring, April I think. By July it was running hard, Seafoamed it back to life. Then October after sitting for a month it wouldn't start. New plug and 1/2 bottle through the carb fixed that nightmare.

It's got a 50/50 87 and Seafoam blend in it's tank right now  it'll get fired up within the month so we'll see what happens

What more do you expect from a shitty $60 lawnmower though haha! I don't have a big yard at all and I almost never mow. Last summer I think my yard was giving my mailman Vietnam flashbacks...yeah, that bad. It's tough for me to justify a nice lawnmower

I expect a hellofa lot more for $60 than junk. when I go to work my entire crew puts every ounce of pride, quality and craftsmanship in every thing we do or else they are no longer on my crew, call me old but I kinda expect that from everything else in this world instead of what I get , which is why I know how to do so much. Of course thats also why my lawnmower is 50 years old and teh 2.5 in my Jeep has a remanufactured engine, I know who remanufactured it :)

You actually adjusted your timing to burn 93? 93 burns slower, and unless you adjust the timing you will be blowing some of your fuel out the pipe because it won't burn completely. High performance cars like Cobras, Machs, Corvettes, and you get the idea, come from the factory set up to run high octane fuel. You should never run anything except what the manual tells you to because that is what the motor is setup to run the most efficient.
Was wondering that myself ???

I have a SCT Livewire for my Stang. Re-gearing is why I got it, so I could adjust the speedo. I leave it on the 87 tune unless I go to the track. The canned tune isn't going to give me much anyways because tuners are set up so conservative. I would have to get a tune from a dyno to get the most out of it. I guess if I had a wideband O2 sensor and knew how to datalog I could get someone to email me a better tune, but still wouldn't be as good as a dyno. My Livewire has a tree, shift light, and I can set up a two-step on it, so it is fun to play with.

I am so glad you guys took this from a Sea Foam thread to lawn mowers. Just because one guy believes in Sea Foam and another guy does not, it does not mean you have knock the other guy's opinion about it. No matter what guy A says about product XYZ guy B is going to say product XYZ is not what guy A says it to be. For example I carry a pistol for work. The only pistol I will EVER carry is a Glock .40 Caliber... and let the argument begin how Glock is a plastic terrorist weapon and the .40 S&W is too small blah blah blah

I just Seafomaed the Wranglenater. I used the Brake Vacuum Line and a funnel. I poured the can nice and slowly until the end. I chocked out the engine with the rest. I deep creeped the intake. It was smoking up my driveway so I wanted to get out on the road ASAP.

On my way to the highway I noticed all the dirty looks from the people behind me as it smoked greater then Bob Marley. I got on the highway and thats when the real fun started. All the cars behind me were waisting no time to get out of the right lane and pass me. At one point I even think people were turning on their headlights to try to penetrate my noxious cloud of Seagas

I respect your opinion, and I will repost in a few days to state if I notice any improvements.

I ran a little seafoam in my 20" lawn mower for 15 minutes before I tore the engine down to replace the busted ring and worn out main bearing, had nice clean parts to work with after the seafoam. Mower is back together now, works better with the new ring and bearing, I dumped a little seafoam in the tank just to piss off my neighbor across the street, it worked :) she hates engines that smoke :)

Actually Teflon is for making aircraft bearings and such, for cooking a well seasoned cast iron pan is all that should be used. no Teflon coated pans no Stainless steel or Copper, just plain old Cast Iron.
I learned at a young age (10) that stuff like Seafoam and Risalone can be used to clean a heavily crudded up engine, BUT it MUST be completely removed after use. Ya can't just leave it in there as an additive unless ya enjoy swapping engines. But to me it just seems easier, cheaper and makes more sense to just change the oil and filter when it needs it, that keeps an engine just as clean. I've tore down engined in cars with 100,00 on the odo that have had oil and filter changed at 3000 the entire life of th engine that are cleaner than a modern engine that was flushed out with a cleaner.

I'm curious to see how this thread ends. From Seafoam to smoking lawnmowers to guns that weigh as much as a toy but never jam. What's next?

My wife took my old TJ to a mechanic once while I was deployed because she wanted to surprise me by having the entire Jeep cleaned when I got back home, engine and all, and they used the Seafoam trick on it. I noticed how great it looked but didn't know anything about the engine until she told me, it ran just like it did when I got dropped off at the marshalling point. Perpetual check engine light and all.

I pulled the plugs out to change them and oil today after sea foaming and this is what they looked like.

You seafoamed through the intake too? Surprisingly they don't look as clean as they would claimed to be
I did the intake as well, and I'll admit, did not look as clean as they claimed, but it runs great.

I don't use pans with teflon. It comes off. I don't want to eat it in my food, or on the trail when it wears off my bearings. As far as using a cleaning agent, I think I'll add a tank so I can push a button and inject it in and create a smoke screen whenever I want. Duh!!
