So I got all new hardware because the self adjusters aren't locking out and now the new ones are doing the same thing. I just put it all back on the way it came off. Is it wrong?
Either the cable guide has popped out of the spring mounting hole in the shoe, or the ring on the top end of the cable is not on the fat part of the upper pin, or both. The self adjuster lever should be in contact with the star wheel on the adjuster screw assembly.
It's on correct I referred to a manual too. I also did it the reverse of the disassembly. I am used to the lever being in contact with the wheel but I think this system is designed to self adjust when you pull the e-break. That in turn pulls the lever into the wheel causing it to spin and self adjust.

the adjusting wheel and the gold colored plate should be touching. So that the wheel only turns one way. When you manually adjust the brakes, you will hear a ratcheting sound. I understand you put everything back the way it was but that doesn't mean it was installed correctly to begin with.
Check the cable at the top. The hole at the top of the cable should be a tight fit, not sitting where the springs go but inboard more. I wish I could word this better. For whatever reason the cable is too long(routing) not in its proper position. Another pic would be helpful.
Followed the manual. Need to bleed them probably going to get me cylinders here soon. I was originally getting a whirling grinding type sound like bad break shoes/pad. I took the front off to inspect and shoes looked great. So I decided to replace the rear instead. Still have the sound. I'm thinking its the universal joint on my rear drive shaft. Bought it was the unit bearings on the front but it all spins good and isn't loose of even moves when I jacked it up and rocked the components. She got 141k on the ticker and a lot of items appear to be oe 😖 Working good for now and I'm not currently wheeling so a to b is ok for now.
Check your springs at the top to be sure the one on the left is not rubbing the cable. Springs may be reversed. I also think the end on the bottom is on wrong. Hook just the spring end on the back of the plate in the hole in the adjuster arm.
See where the green spring is hooked. Now look at the 2 top springs they are different. I just went though this on the jeep I just bought. Someone did them wrong.
Which upper spring goes on first doesn't matter because the self adjuster cable end ring goes behind the shoe guide plate (not shown in his picture), and the springs go on the outside of it.
That is most likely your problem. That ring needs to be on the large diameter of the pin. Also, as I mentioned previously, check the cable guide in the rear shoe. They have a habit of popping out of the spring hole when the spring is installed, and that can cause too much slack in the cable also.

I've been trying to get the self adjust cable and NO auto parts place has them....can't even order one........whats going on with the availability on this cable ?:atomic:
