Exclamation serpetine belt help!!!!

okay guys, i got a 97 tj 2.5L. bought a new belt and now i cant get my new one to tighten down...so help me guys!! is my adjustable pulley supposed to be pulled all the way up or down? do i just keep tightening the bolt behind the pulley till its tight? any advise would be appreciated!!!

Did you make sure the new one and the old one are the same exact size? Did you maybe grab one for an AC rig by mistake?

As long as you have it in right it shouldn't be that far from where it was before. Just tighten it up to tension. You have it routed the same yes?

yes, its the exact same length and everything, its just loose. so does that mean i just need to keep tightening?

Yes make sure its routed correctly and keep tightening

By your question regarding up or down I'm thinking maybe you removed the tensioner pulley all the way and forgot how it was? Anyhow, here's the possible variations for the stock setups. As stated above as long as its routed correctly you will just keep cranking it until you get proper tension. I would only worry if you can't adjust it to tension, then something would clearly be wrong.

i got it guys! im 17 and its my first vehicle lol so im new to doing this stuff, but i just didnt run it right ...no diagram anywhere to show me

Cool. That site I linked above has a ton of good info for different maintenance processes on these rigs. Glad to hear you got it sorted out. Wrenching on your own will be a very rewarding venture, keep it up.
