severe headlight issue

OK, i have the Hella ECodes and have had trouble recently. My passenger side light is extremely dim (looks like a dying flashlight).

I checked the plug and some wires are exposed and look corroded. I bought a factory replacement from OReily but the replacement has 3 wires.. . .facotry plug has 5

also, is there a site i can go to and order a good aftermarket harness so i can not deal with this in the future?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

If your running the lights off the stock wiring, I'd make a relay harness for them and have the stock wiring trip relays. There are lots of write ups and info on that I've seen around here.

You can remove the individual connectors and clean them. I had to do it with mine. I'll have to see if I can come up with a pic showing how to get them out.

I have zero wiring knowledge . . . . . creating wiring trip relays is foreign to me

Without any wiring knowledge you'd be best off letting someone that does look at it. You could pull the connector off and clean it with a pick/sandpaper/etc with the lights etc off, but other than that it'd be replacing the harness/plug/etc or putting a relay one in anyways. I've not heard of a plug n play harness, perhaps someone else will chime in with a place that does have them...

I bought a replacement plug from the local auto store but the replacement has 3 wires and the factory has 5. Every auto place (advanced, JC whitney, oreily) all offer "direct factory replacement plugs". . . . . but all have 3 wires when my jeep has 5. Last thing i wanna do is start crossing wires.

Your Jeep only has 3 on the passenger side. The extra wires on the driver side plug are just the wire that cross the grill to feed the PS headlamp. If you're new to wiring, get two new plugs and take it to someone who can do a proper job replacing them. In the mean time, get yourself some wire, a soldering gun, some butt splices, heat shrink, etc., and start practicing and learn how to do these kinds of repairs..

I just installed this harness this past summer and it works pretty good for the price. It's a straight forward install and your headlamps get power directly from the battery (which increases light output). Your OEM driver's side female plug mates with the harness allowing you to continue using the cab's headlamp switch.
