Shafted need advice !!

I recently bought my 17 yr old daughter a 1997 Wrangler sport. After a few days I noticed a small oil leak under the vehicle. I brought it to my mechanic who had to replace the rear oil seal. A few days later the leak came back. He replaced it again and said the crank shaft may have to beremoved ,machined and put back. The jeep is still leaking oil. Does anyone know of something that he may be missing ? Is Does this sound normal for a Jeep. Any help would be appreciated. I have a very unhapppy daughter ?

How many miles are on it? The rear seal is a common issue with the 4.0L... but I never heard of it being that excessive. Might want to take it elsewhere for a second opinion.

A leak that appears to be in that area can be misleading. When I first got my Jeep, I had a head gasket leak that went down the back of the motor and between the trans/engine. Could be pretty simple.
Also, with the rear main seal, I have heard that it is kinda easy to install the new seal backward and that will cause a leak. If you have basic tools and somewhat handy, I say give it a shot yourself. Took me a couple of hours and a couple of beers.

I think it has 138,000 miles. the mechanic said he also tightened the head cover gasket thinking it might be leaking down the back of the eggine. Two seals in two weeks and it's still leaking. I may have to get a second opinion. Thanks for the help. I searched for Jeep help and found your website. I have been reading and everyone on here seems cool, and very helpful. Thanks again..
