Shift clunk..

My 4.0 6-speed sometimes when I shift from 1st-2nd or 2nd-3rd there's a clunking sound coming from the middle of the jeep, all the u-joints are new and tight how can I check the mounts?

Put a pry bar between the skid and the t/c. If you can lift the t/c it means the mount is bad. I had the same issue on my 98. It would knock coming out of first gear unless I let the clutch out real slow. Replacing the mount is easy. Jack stand under the tranny, Four nuts in center of skid, drop the skid (three bolts on each side) , unbolt the mount and slap in the new one. It was a $35 part and 30 minutes worth of time. Hope this helps. Good Luck. Neil
