Question Shift Knob...Information?

Hey all! I'm new to this forum but I basically know the forum rules...I searched on this site, but just couldn't find any pictures or information on an aftermarket shift knob...I found a few teaching me how to take the knob off...but I basically want to know how you guys found the right knob to fit on your TJ...

So basically a few questions I need help with:-What size should I be looking for when looking for a new knob?
-What does a RockNob look like and where can I purchase it if my uncle likes it?
-Is there a site for knobs and other aftermarket products for our TJ's?

Thanks for any info!
-Martin

There's a thread with links to aftermarket suppliers from jeeps. I'm not sure where it is, but I think I'll be puttin' together a list of 'em for the FAQs. I'll do it this weekend.

^^okay well that was a huge surprise..didn't know a "rocknob" was actually a rock...well that is definetly not what he was looking for haha...I was thinking more like a momo shift knob or something that looks a bit sportier...I like certain knobs like the all black leather momo round knob...but I basically need to know what will fit...all of the aftermarket online sites only post up imported cars...any sites you guys recommend?

oh btw...thanks amerijeep for all your help...whats your name...don't want to keep calling you by your username haha..

All my friends call me J, so you can call me J, too.

There's a whole lot of 'jeep smart' people on here. They'll be happy to give you all the help you need. They are being quiet right now, but they'll be here!

From what i've seen so far almost any aftermarket knob should fit that come with those plastic addons..

I really like my old momo chrome but i dont know how it will look on a wrangler so i never bothered changing the stock. I would get a new booth once the summer comes since i hate the noise the stock shifter booth makes. http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/images/shift_knob.jpg

I'm sticking on of these on this weekend. I hate chrome but I always thought these were cool. I used to have a round chrome ball but I can't find another one now. I liked it because it was nice and heavy.

The shift knob is a metric thread. The actual size is M10 X 1.5 so if you find the knob you want , that is the thread you need it in. Here is a website with a couple different knob choices on it.

^yeah...actually i've been working on cars for a long time, especially imports cause thats what I grew up with, with my friends and family...but lately i've been getting an itch for a truck that basically has no limits...with my car i have to watch out for speed bumps and all that crap....I just want a truck so I can drive without worries and even maybe have fun offroad...

Truv6 I am also an import freak. I owned a few inch high miata and used to hit every bump and hole (we have alot of them here), and for some reason people would put beer cans in the middle of the road lanes and i would hit those too unless i can avoid them so i bought a wrangler since i didnt really like the rest of the rigs. Today i asked a "racer" with a "suped up civic" if he wants to race me with my nearly stock wrangler.. all i got was ahh nooo blah blah blah excuse excuse blah bla..

B&M short shifters are the ones i'm hearing goods about.

http://www.quadratec.com/products/52159_001.htm

Keep in mind 4 bangers have different trannies than 6s so the shifters are different and also pre 99 tjs have different shifters than +00

I run the B&M short shifter. First to second is about the same distance as first to neutral was with the stock shifter. It is a very solid shifter. Nicely done, not too expensive.

You can find shift knobs that specifically fit Jeeps at either quadratec.com or allthingsjeep.com.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

Also, think about hand grenade dummies, 8 balls, etc. Lots of options to choose from.
