Shifter boot.....WHAT'S THE DEAL?

My shifter boot doesn't stay in any one place very long. Everytime you shift, it exposes the inner boot and lets heat come through the cab. Isn't it supposed to kinda fit into the lip of the console? Anyone know a fix for this? Is my TJ missing a bezel or something?

There's a hidden plate/edge the shifter boot snaps around to stay in place.

When you have a choice, buy American.

the hidden plate is plastic and breaks along the side so it won't snap in. (don't ask how i know) I just screwed it ino place with a screw in each corner. it now will sta in place.

i had to replace the plastic retainer for mine a while back. i found them on ebay for around $30 but the dealership was actually cheaper, i think i paid $15 for a new one.

And this plate goes UNDER the top of the console?

It just kind of snaps in. The boot fits over the top of it and then it clips into the opening in the console - should fit in fine from the top. It's just a thin plastic frame and, unfortunately, it does break easily...I too know from experience. I guess it is possible that somehow yours has fallen down into the console or got pushed farther up into the boot so that the bottom of it is no longer exposed enough to clip into the console.
