Shocks control spring oscillations, without it the spring will oscillate uncontrollably. It's not something I would do. I would also replace both shocks @ that axle unless they were relatively new to begin with, but I am admittedly anal about that stuff.

Did you break your shock by not having the bumpstops set up correctly? Is there a reason for not replacing the pair on the axle in question?

You'll be fine for a short time. When I broke one of my rear bar pins on the reload I pulled the shock and drove like that for a week while the new shocks came in. I wouldn't recommend it for long term though.

Hard stops will be a problem. Check out this video of two missing shocks in the front. http://youtu.be/FyYvLZ2NjW4

Of course two missing shocks will be sketchy, but nobody said anything about two missing shocks...

Just pointing out how his jeep will behave without any shocks at all. It was to show the importance of shocks.

I'm not suggesting he drive it too far, especially not on the highway, because I will not be responsible if he can't stop in time or loses control and gets in an accident.

So yes you could probably move your jeep around but I personally would not drive that more than short distances at a relatively low speed.
