Shortening Exhaust Pipe?

Lookin for opinions...

I'm in the process of 4-linking the rear of my TJ. Welded the upper link mounts yesterday and found, as I expected, that the muffler is in the way.

I see my options as either:
1) find a muffler that is like 8 inches shorter
2) cut the pipe ahead of the cat, remove 8 inches, and weld the pipe back together

#2 is most likely, but biggest questions with that one is: will the reduced pipe length cause excessive heat in the cat?

Hopefully that makes sense, otherwise I can draw it out and take a few pics...

Opinions, please...

No the cat being closer to the engine will not make it get any hotter than it does now.Well ok maybe a degree or two but no it will not effect it in any way as far as heat, the way it runs or the way it sounds it will all be the same with 6"s of pipe gone in front and added to the rear. You will have to put that 6"s back in behind the point were it was going to hit the upper CA so the tail pipe comes out the same.

yeah...already expecting to have to redo the full pipe (after the muffler) so that I don't hit the axle and control arms since I'm 4-linking and stretching...

In looking at it, I don't see any other choices...
