I am in the process of changing the gas tank skid on my 98 TJ. I had to remove the fuel pump to remove a dent in the tank. Now I am wondering if I should replace the fuel pump since I have everything apart. I have 121K miles.
I have no problems with it now but would hate to be on the trail and have it fail. How long do they typically last?

Simple answer is if you can afford it and especially if you're doing the work yourself, do it.

Always better to be safe than sorry.

They usually last until the most inconvenient time to die!!

If you install a run-of-the-mill chain parts store pump, you might be going from safe to sorry. The OE pumps are generally pretty reliable. (Fuel pressure regulators excepted.)

Tell that to the countless numbers of folks whose new parts store fuel pumps failed inside of a year.
