Should I upgrade the battery & alternator?

Good Morning Everyone,

It is a beautiful day in the northeast with temperatures possibly reaching in the mid 70's. Anywho, I just had some lights installed on my TJ and was wondering if I should put a better battery and alternator in there.

The following has been installed:

Hella Driving Lights on the Windshield
Hella Fog Lights on the Grill Guard
Square lights under the front bumper
Reverse lights under the rear bumper

The guy who installed them for me is awesome. He does his own work on his Jeep and this is his company, automobile modications. I just wanted to get a second opinion. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Oh hey excellent thanks for the information my friend. So if I ever decide to put an extra set of speakers or sub in the back with an amp; would it be a good idea to get a better battery or alternator at that point?

The factory alternator can handle a lot... can't speak for the battery, but you should probably be fine, though if you put a large sub/amp in the back, you may want to add a capacitor into the mix to help prevent your lights from dimming on the bass hits.

If you do upgrade your battery, I'd look into the Sears Diehard Platinum series batteries which are basically a rebadged Odyssey battery. Not cheap, but one of the best batteries you can buy for a Jeep.

You should be fine, just make sure each additional set of lights is wired through their own relay or you may burn out your switches and wiring.

Lights under the bumpers??
If your planning on doing any off-roading, those may not last very long there.

Yes they are all set up with relays. Hahah yeah I know, lol those won't last too long under the bumper. I'm not much of an off roader right now. I've still got to get it raised at some point in my life.

I've only started these upgrades because I just paid off the Jeep about a month ago. I was away from the military and it was a perfect oppertunity to send in a large payment to finish off the balance.

I'm thinking of putting some seat covers on the inside and was wondering how you all liked the neoprene seat covers from Quadratec.

Neopreme seat covers are not only a waste of $$$, they are a short-lived waste of $$$. First, neopreme is not, despite what some of the ads say, waterproof. If it rains with your top down & you don't get the seats wiped off right away, the water will soak into the neopreme & you'll either have to drive home sitting on a towel or you'll suffer a "Wet Okole".

Next, the colored nylon covers on them fade quickly & unevenly if they see much sun. Red turns pink, black turns purple, etc. After not much time, neopreme seat covers start looking like crap. They wrinkle and the nylon "skin" starts balling & shredding.

I wouldn't run neopreme seat covers if they were given to me.

I was thinking of a fabric seat cover. I don't like the feel of neoprene as it is. It seems that a person would slide around quite a bit with them. For some reason they are really expensive as well which sucks.

I ran Bestop's vinyl seat covers when my TJ still had its OE seats & I liked them a lot. They were textured so they didn't feel like vinyl, and they fit well enough that they didn't look like seat covers. I really liked them.
