Sign of a bad drive shaft joint?

I have had a sound simular to a bad speedo cable in my Jeep for a few months now. I looked around under the Jeep to try and isolate the noise. I found this last night on my front drive shaft. These pictures are of the front drive shaft univ. joint where it bolts to the TC. There appears to be axle grease on some parts of this joint. Is this thing going bad? My Jeep is an 06 Rubicon with a 3" suspension lift and 33's and has around 24,000 miles on it. I know it's still under warranty but before I make a claim I want to know does this thing look bad based on the presents of grease?

Just unbolt it and take a cap off to inspect the joint. Be careful to not lose any of the needle bearings in the cap. But you can easily tell if its worn out.

Just a thought but do you have any vibes from your 3" susp lift that may cause slight leak? I would still check the u-joint couldn't hurt.

No vibes with the 3" lift that where not present with the original set up. Before I had the lift installed I noted very well at all shift points the way the powertrain felt. After the lift was installed there was a light vibration upon acceleration but after the lift settled the vibe went away.

I did not see any play in any of the joints. I dropped it of this morning for an oil change at the dealer. I told him my concerns and he said they will check it out. From what I can tell it is the spline coming out of the transfer case that I'm seeing the grease on. I will wait for the diagnosis and let you all know.

Well I got my Jeep back and they gave it a clean bill of health. Where I thought there was a leak, it is grease on the shaft that comes out of the TC. None of my u-joints had any play in them. As for the noise I am hearing it's not that loud so I'm not sure what it is. They test drove my Jeep and did not hear any noises, but it's cold here right now and they did not drive it long enough to get the powertrain hot. I told my service guy that on the next oil change we would address it then, it will be warmer out side and a short drive should reveal something. I appreciate everyone who helped analyze this.
